This is our Friday day off. It’s been a very easy day, about minus 4 degrees Fahrenheit. It was windy during the day, but now it has calmed down and the temperature is dropping again. It was a very good rest day for the dogs. We are camped on the leeward side of a large island, and there is very deep snow for the dogs.

Both Hugh and I had a snow shower today, and we washed up a lot of our clothing and gear, wrote a lot, and did some reading on global warming. I’m going to be doing a lot of journal writing on global warming, particularly what the elders in this area think of what is going on. I want to get their viewpoints on how the weather and environment are changing. I’ve been doing a lot of reading and research today between odd jobs.

We got the generator going today when it warmed up, I think it was a gas line freeze problem. So the educational report will be going out via satellite in about an hour or so, which will go online on Monday.

And we anticipate being in Baker Lake around Tuesday evening, it’s about a four day trip from here, given that the weather holds.
