Pretty cold day today. 40 degrees below zero Fahrenheit in the morning, and we had a wind across our face, though not directly at us like the day before, so it didn’t feel quite as cold. It got up to about 30 below during the day, but remained clear, and was a pretty pleasant day.

I’m going to continue talking about the friends we met in Baker Lake, and also the elders. This will be one of many such installments, and I want to catch up on everything we did in Baker Lake. Also, there is a text version of the dispatch, and my journals can also be read online (there is no audio version of the journals). In the journals, I am presently writing a series about how I got into dogs and some of the past expeditions that I did.

When we arrived in Baker Lake on March 2, it was really cold and dark, about 44 below, with a strong wind against us. But we were greated by many people on the trails, and then when we got onto the road a few pickup trucks drove up. One fellow we talked to, a guy by the name of Greg, we were just chatting away with. Hugh and I didn’t have a place to stay, and were a little pensive about that, but it usually easy to find a place. When Greg found out were we looking for a place he immediately offered up his place.
