It was a great day of travel today. We covered 27 miles under clear skies, virtually no wind. We descended into the Hayes River valley, it was really a lucky day. We found some really good descents. We were expecting some really steep inclines, but we found some gradual slopes, which enabled us to cover a lot of ground today.

There is a lot of signs of caribou, although we didn’t actually see any caribou today. They do a lot of grazing in this area. We took a short cut through a Y-shaped fork in the river, and we are just about half a mile from the river right now on our short cut.

They day was really great, the dogs were running fine. It was kind of spring day, I think it got up to ten below zero Fahrenheit. It is dropping off tonight in the calm, clear weather. It is 8:30, we are still on regular time (not daylights savings time) and it is still light out. Hugh is writing in his journal, and I’m cooking dinner.

And we’ll sign off here on this great day.
