Distance Traveled: 4.3 Miles

Pretty tough day today. We worked hard crossing the pack ice, covering just over four miles. The first four hours of the day, during a snow storm, we covered just half a mile. There was poor visibility and extremely tough pack ice. It was very difficult going, and we didn’t know how we were going to get out of it. But by two o’clock it cleared off a little bit. But we also had really deep snow, some of the deepest snow I’ve seen in the Arctic. Sometimes the drifts are as deep as knee high.

So it was not a really fun day, but ended with clearer weather. We can see the other side of Committee Bay, and are 16 miles from the shore. We were hoping to be there by tomorrow night, but I think it is going to be later than that.

We are camped on some really smooth ice, but with ridges all around us. The dogs are sleeping contentedly in the soft snow.
