Temperature: 30F

Location: Baffin Island

Latitude: 71deg 16’ 20’’ N

Longitude: 80deg 11’ 13” W

Distance Traveled: 30 Miles

We had a good day of travel again yesterday, making 30 miles. It is cloudy, low fog on occasion. Days like this, when you have day after day of clouds and clouding at night, you kind of lose track of time and dimension. The day was, for myself, the fastest day of the trip. The time just seemed to vanish. All of a sudden we had a lunch break, and then shortly after that we were breaking for camp. There is no reference for direction or time here without the sun, other than your watch.

The terrain is getting a little hillier as we are getting closer to the mountains. And we will be going through a small river valley to get through to the other side of Baffin Island. The weather remains kind of windy and cloudy, not really pleasant weather but, compared to what we are used to, it’s quite warm. This morning we had about a 20 mph wind blowing, the temperatures near freezing, perhaps a little below. It is morning for us, which means 10 o’clock in the evening. Paul is eating granola right now, and in another half an hour we will be packing up and leaving for another day.
