Temperature: 50F

Location: Pond Inlet

Latitude: 72deg 42’ 01

Longitude: 77deg 58’ 54” W

Distance Traveled: 47 Miles

This is a special day, Aaron’s 33rd birthday. Also, a record distance of travel today, 42 miles. We pushed a 12 hour day, beginning at 10 p.m. We reached Pond Inlet, and so far have traveled 2,041 miles on the expedition. We are taking a couple of days off here, and will be debating whether we can continue onto Clyde River, which is the next town, about 300 miles from here.

But the conditions are beginning to deteriorate quite quickly. It is very warm, was probably about 50 degrees Fahrenheit on land today. There is very little snow on the land, just some higher up on the mountains. We will be making the decision soon about whether we will travel to Clyde or whether Pond Inlet will be the end of the road for us.

Today was for sure our most beautiful day of travel. There were glaciers all around us, on all four sides. The mountains are extremely beautiful. The dogs were very happy.

We are camped in front of town now, the dogs are staked out and sleeping well. I’m going to stay up all day today and get into the regular rhythm of the days.
